Message From The Lord
Point 1 The message. Has the word of the Lord came to you? You may not remember. I want you to think very hard as I read this scripture. (King James version) Jonah 1:1 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai saying, Arise, go to Ninevah, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. The way the word of the Lord comes to us all is not the same cause there are different ways of communication and we all percieve and comprehend on different levels.
The word of the Lord coming to us is the Lord giving us a message. (New Living Translation) Jonah 1:1 The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: HAS THE LORD GAVE YOU A MESSAGE? I want you to think about the message God has given you to deliver. What you do with that message is very vital to how your life goes. The message to Jonah is here in Jonah 1:2 (King James Version) Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. (New Interrnational Version) Jonah 1:2 Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me. (New Living Translation) Announce my judgement against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.
Jonah was a reluctant prophet given a mission he found distasteful. Nineveh was a powerful and wicked city. Jonah grew up hating the Assyrians and fearing their atrocities. His hatred was so strong that he didn't want them to receive God's mercy. Jonah don't say much about Nineveh's wickedness, but Nahum gives us more insight into their character. Nahum, like Jonah, was a prophet to Nineveh. Nineveh was guilty of (1) evil plots against God Nahum 1:9 (2) exploitation of the helpless Nahum 2:12 (3) cruelty in war Nahum 2:12-13 (4) idolatry, prostitution, and witchcraft Nahum 3:4.
Point 2 Deliver the message. Instead of delivering the message Jonah ran. Jonah 1:3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
Jonah ran from his calling. Have you ran from your calling? I have. I remember being in jail one of my many times being in the county and a guy came for the volunteer church service and he was tatted up. I remember sitting there looking at his appearance and saying to the Lord, please let me live the way I am living and once I'm tatted up like this guy I will come back into the jail just like him and spread your word.
A life of selling drugs was the fare I paid to get from the presence of the Lord! Physical pleasure was the fare I paid to get from the presence of the Lord! Addiction was the fare I paid to get from the presence of the Lord! Fornication was the fare I paid to get from the presence of the Lord! A life of unrighteousness was the fare I paid to get from the presence of the Lord!
WHAT FARE HAVE YOU PAID TO GET FROM THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD?
Point 3 The storm. Jonah 1:4 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. HAVE YOU BEEN IN A STORM IN YOUR LIFE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL BROKEN? THINK ABOUT HOW YOU ENDED UP IN THAT STORM.
In the midst of the storm. Jonah 1:5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his God, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. This how our loved ones are that get caught up in the storm the Lord sent meant for us. Our friends, our family try to figure why we are addicted, why we are not living the life meant for us, how did we get to this point in our life. They run around trying figure out the solution for the storm and shelter us.
Point 4 The Belly of the Fish. Now we skip ahead to Jonah 2:1-2. Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly, and said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou headrest my voice. My life of incarceration was the belly of the fish, my life of addiction was the belly of the fish. If you do something opposite of what God called you to do you will see the belly of the fish.
The day I cried out of the belly of my fish I thought I was about to spontaneously combust. I laid next to my girl and the heat off my body woke her up. It felt like my eyes were on fire. My heart was great so hard it felt like it was gon jump out my chest. All I wanted to do was snort more cocaine. I prayed like Jonah out of the belly of the fish. I said Lord if this is who I'm suppose to be this next line of cocaine will kill me. Not only did I snort one line I snorted 2.
Praise God I didn't die! This has been a long journey My Church. I remember when I was spit out the belly of the fish. Jonah 2:10 And the Lord spake unto the fish fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon dry land. July 6th, 2011 I was vomited out of the fish's belly to answer the call God has on my life. My call is to bring hope to the dope boy who thinks that is all they can be. Bring hope to those incarcerated by showing them their is another way. To day I met a brother that was at one of the jail pass outs that we done 4 years ago. He told me that every since then he has held tight to his Bible and not looked back. HALLELUJAH!!!
Point 5 Jonah fulfills his mission. Jonah 3:1-3 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah a second time, saying, Arise go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the Word of the Lord.
So Lorrenzo arose, and went unto the county jail, the streets of Springfield and wherever according to the Word of the Lord.
Put your name in there and go according to the word of the Lord.
